Colonial Class battlestar by: XRaiderV1

this frame built deliberately using as few parts as possible, making this unique in being built almost exclusively from parts available in the original frame.

Historical notes:

an exceptionally old ship, the Ares had been consigned to the mothballs fleet after decades in service in the reserve fleet, her notable record includes several engagements in the first cylon war.

towards the final years of the twelve colonies, several expeditions were launched to locate and colonize new worlds, and the Ares was chosen to lead one such expedition, chosen for her near legendary endurance in battle, and refitted with modern equipment, all contact was lost several months after her expedition departed colonial space.

Some thoughts, for what it may be worth...

I know this is an older design both from the standpoint of when made, and from when in universe it came out, but I've always liked it.

Reminds me a bit of CanisD's Diana class, with the look remenicent of a Berserk class. On the other hand, I like this more as it has a heavier central frame. The one from CanisD looks like it is ready to snap in half if you look too hard.

Figure it is about the size of a Artimis class from Deadlock, say 1050m or so. Would potentially make for a great companion vessel to a larger battlestar as well as independent assignments.

Despite the age, a mini battlestar done with minimal parts might appeal to the modern bean counters, and this could be a baseline design...

I always wondered... what is the dark three row streak going down the centerline of the head of the ship?

For the most part, I like the overall balance of size vs. firepower.

Hmmm... Were a redesign of this to be done to be more modernized. I could see perhaps:

- remove 4 of the top guns, leaving the 8 lined up with the struts for the pods

- for the 8 remaining guns increase to one size larger heavier guns

- adding 6 smaller guns between each of the 8 heavier ones (for flak and smaller targets)

- remove the armor plate on the outer center of each pod (under 2nd strut from the left) to make for a small raptors nest.

- drop the number of viper tubes to 20 per side, and make a capacity of 80 vipers total for the viper airwing. Maybe a dozen raptors and shuttles between the two pods.
